      <image:title>Flooring</image:title>
<image:caption>I decided to go with a vinyl tile with a self-adhesive backing instead of ceramic or stone...mostly because it's a lot lighter and won't chip or crack. The manufacturer's directions said it adheres better to plywood coated with a latex primer so I painted it white before laying down the tiles.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Flooring</image:title>
<image:caption>A lot of the new vinyl tile is groutable which helps it do a pretty convincing job of impersonating stone and ceramic tiles. This was the start of filling grout into all the seams.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The finished floor panel for the kitchen. I'm hoping to won't be necessary but if I ever need to access the fresh water storage tank under the kitchen floor, I'll just have to remove this panel.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Flooring</image:title>
<image:caption>This was the start of getting the bamboo flooring laid out. It's not the most conventional approach but I decided to glue and nail the bamboo onto sheets of plywood to make two removeable floor panels for the living room area in the front of the bus. It was kind of like playing with giant bamboo puzzle pieces when I was trying to figure out how to lay them all down.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/52b5c5c5e4b067a0f5982b4c/1387644490719-SSS84CRXAOTPLL8WENLO/bamboo-finsihed-panels.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Flooring</image:title>
<image:caption>The finished bamboo flooring panels. The darker bamboo is going to go in the living room area in the front and the lighter bamboo will be for the recording studio area in the back of the bus. Bamboo grows really fast and makes for a great sustainable building material. Some say it grows 24 inches in a day....quite a bit faster than the 50-150 years it can take for most hardwood trees to mature. The manufacturing process could use a lot of improvements but bamboo is still a game changer in the effort to reduce clear cutting and massive deforestation.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus</image:title>
<image:caption>This was the start of getting the bamboo flooring laid out. It's not the most conventional approach but I decided to glue and nail the bamboo onto sheets of plywood to make two removeable floor panels for the living room area in the front of the bus. It was kind of like playing with giant bamboo puzzle pieces when I was trying to figure out how to lay them all down.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus</image:title>
<image:caption>The finished bamboo flooring panels. The darker bamboo is going to go in the living room area in the front and the lighter bamboo will be for the recording studio area in the back of the bus. Bamboo grows really fast and makes for a great sustainable building material. Some say it grows 24 inches in a day....quite a bit faster than the 50-150 years it can take for most hardwood trees to mature. The manufacturing process could use a lot of improvements but bamboo is still a game changer in the effort to reduce clear cutting and massive deforestation.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The flooring that I put together in Winter finally got to move onto the bus. There are a total of 6 removable flooring panels...4 sections of bamboo and 2 sections of tile. They're all fairly manageable size and weight so it won't be too hard to remove them to access anything in the under-floor storage areas if need be.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus</image:title>
<image:caption>I take it back...there are 7 removeable sections of flooring. Half of this tile floor area is removeable too. <image:caption>Once the flooring was in place it was a lot easier to work on everything. This is the back of the bus where I started to install flexible NRP paneling for the ceiling. <image:caption>Revisted The Crooners old stomping grounds in Paris for a couple weeks in February 2012 and took this picture of one of the first motorized vehicles in the Musee des Arts et Metiers (Paris Museum of Technology). It's a steam powered truck/bus/thing from the early 1700's. I didn't see an air-ride suspension on this thing but it does have a cleaner burning fuel than my bus.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus</image:title>
<image:caption>This is a series of photos showing the assembly of the spring-loaded rollers for one of the slide out awnings. They are basically just really big window shades with retractable rollers so the fabric of the awnings will stay tight when the slides are out and then roll back up on the tube when the slides pull in.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus</image:title>
<image:caption>Once the rollers were in place I started prepping the slide outs for a layer of garage door seal. This shows the steel ribbing along the side of the bus getting cut to make room for the seal to lay flat around the perimeter of the slide.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus</image:title>
<image:caption>After everything was smoothed out and primed I spread adhesive around the edges of the slides for the garage door seal. This was a carpet adhesive I used on one side of the bus to hold the seals in place before using an epoxy on them. When I got around to the other side I went with gorilla glue for the seals on the other two slide outs...both sides still seem to be holding up.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus</image:title>
<image:caption>Bed frame hinged up against the back wall. I had originally conceived a plan to raise the bed up against the ceiling with the side cabinetry attached to it by cables and pulleys so the weight of the cabinets would balance out the weight of the bed and make it easy to raise and lower. While I still really like that idea and want to apply it to something some day, I ended up going with this plan because I'm hoping it will serve the function of the recording studio better. Not only will I have more space for shelving and storage along the side walls but the bed will block more outside noise from coming through the back windows and I'm also hoping I can treat the bottom of the bed with wood and acoustic foam to create a bass trap when the bed is up and I'm using this space as a studio. Translation...I think the recording studio will sound better this way.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My buddy Cal works down at Builder's Best Do It Center in Cortland, whose management was kind enough to partner with me as a sponsor, so I've been keeping him busy with all these plywood orders. Hey Cal, you were right...the 1x3s and 1/2" plywood were plenty strong enough for the bed but I think I'd need at least 50 more of those spring loaded hinges to make it into a catapult like we were talking about.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A good look at the amount of sunlight available to harvest from seven skylights. The plan is to install two different sets of shades...one set with a reflective backing to bounce the sunlight away on hot summer days and another set with a black backing to absorb the sunlight on colder days.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus - Skylights installed top view</image:title>
<image:caption>If I can figure out a functional design for it, I'd like to run ventilation ducts through the ceiling space to each skylight to turn them into a network of solar air heaters on cold days. The idea would be to pull the black-backed shades and trap a pocket of warm air that I could draw into the bus through the ventilation ducts. The shades would cut down on the heat loss through poorly insulated windows by adding a layer of insulation and also be put to work harvesting heat from the sun's rays. That's the thought at least...</image:caption>

They're based near Lafayette, NY and serve a huge area in the Central NY region. They mainly deal in new building contruction and retrofitting existing buildings to improve insulation performance but they recently added a bus/rv category to their list of services.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus - Low E prep</image:title>
<image:caption>Once I got the foam-filled bus home I sprayed all the exposed metal framing with a rubberized undercoating to prevent rust, decrease condensation and the amount of heat the skeleton ribbing could conduct in from the outside. The blocks of wood are for stapling the next layer of insulation....Low-E.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus - Low E rolls</image:title>
<image:caption>The other layer of insulation is called Low-E...it's has two layers of reflective barrier sandwiching a thin layer of foam. The reflective surface reflects radiant heat and the foam helps reduce convection and conduction, the other two forms of heat transfer. These rolls were supplied by Al at K n A Distributors in Pennsylvania. Thanks Al!</image:caption>

<image:title>The Bus - Close up of air space</image:title>
<image:caption>A close up of the air space left between the foam and the Low E. For Low E to perform its best, it ideally needs at least a 3/4" air space on both sides. The wood blocks not only gave me a surface to staple it to but also gave me the spacing for the layer of air. I'm going to sandwich the Low E with a additional layer of wood blocks screwed into the other blocks....that will give me the spacing for the other layer of air and also give me anchor points to attach interior wall framing and wall facades.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Bus - Low E installed front looking back</image:title>
<image:caption>With all the Low E in place, the bus has now effectively been converted into a big thermos. The combination of insulation will work to trap cold air in and keep warm air out in the summer or, in the winter, trap warm air in and keep cold air out.</image:caption>
